As his second turn as The Bachelor came to a close, two women and only one rose remained for Brad Womack. So was it blonde southern belle Emily Maynard or spunky brunette Chantal O'Brien who won Brad's heart in the end?
"You're the one, Em. You're my once in a lifetime," Womack told Maynard, a 25-year-old single mom. "Please let me be your once in a lifetime. Please let me be your best friend. Please let me protect you and your beautiful daughter, and please let me love you for the rest of your life. I love you, Emily. I am truly in love with you."
Womack, who left both of his final women ringless at the end of his first season of The Bachelor in 2007, got down on one knee and presented Maynard with a Neil Lane sparkler.
"Emily, please make me happier than I've ever been in my life and marry me," Womack said, choking up.
"I would love to," Maynard replied. "You just made me the happiest girl in the world."
While Brad and Emily celebrated their love, O'Brien left South Africa heartbroken and in tears, after Womack broke the news that she wasn't going to be his pick.
"I don't know how else to say except I have stronger feelings for someone else," Brad told the 28-year-old.
"You're an amazing person, and Emily's very lucky. It just sucks because I felt so strongly," O'Brien told him, before getting into a limo for her final ride.
But Brad didn't seem to have doubts that he picked the right woman to be his wife.
"I'm confident that I chose the right woman," Womack said. "I'm even more confident in our love and that it's very real. I mean it."
But things weren't quite so perfect on the Bachelor special After the Final Rose. The couple reunited publicly for the first time following the airing of the finale and admitted that they had already broken up -- temporarily.
They had since gotten back together, and Womack insisted they were still engaged. But Emily admitted she was struggling with the media attention and found it much harder than she expected to watch Brad get close to the other women on TV. When host Chris Harrison asked her if she was ready to get married, she didn't hold back. "Right now, in this instant?" Emily said, turning to Brad. "I love you, but no."
Only time will tell whether these two will ever actually make it down the aisle. But, unfortunately, the odds are stacked against them. There are only three previous Bachelor couples that are still going strong!
