Missing Your Shows? Summer TV Can Tide You Over

Missing Your Shows? Summer TV Can Tide You Over

Your favorite TV shows may be on summer hiatus, but you don't have to be! Some of these original series are quite similar to the ones you love during the year.

If you like Modern Family…then watch TV Land's Happily Divorced (premiering June 15 at 10:30 p.m. ET). Fran Drescher's new sitcom is about her own, uniquely modern family. She keeps house with her gay ex-husband.

If you like Glee, then watch Oxygen's The Glee Project (Sundays, 9 p.m. ET). As 12 contestants vie for a seven-episode guest spot alongside your beloved, capital-L-losers, several Glee cast members will drop in to help out. Plus you'll get to know the show's choreographer, video director, vocal coach and, of course, its creator, Ryan Murphy.

If you like Vampire Diaries…then watch HBO's True Blood (premiering June 26 at 9 p.m. ET). Two powerful, sexy vampires in love with the same girl? Yep. And True Blood also has lots of other characters and plot lines for you to sink your teeth into.

If you like Bones…then watch TNT's Rizzoli and Isles(premiering July 11 at 10 p.m. ET). Granted, this crime-solving team (Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander) won't provide the romantic tension that Bones is known for. But the witty dialogue and murder mystery elements are all there.

If you like Survivor…then watch NBC's Love in the Wild (premiering June 29 at 10 p.m. ET). Set in a Costa Rican jungle, couples take on Survivor-like challenges. But here, the prize is a potential love match.

If you like Fringe…then watch Starz' Torchwood (premiering July 8 at 10 p.m. ET). This  sci-fi series also features pretty people (like Bill Pullman and Lauren Ambrose) dealing with strange, paranormal phenomena and a mysterious backstory.

So, whether you're into reality, sci-fi, crime-fighting, or competition shows, there is plenty on TV to keep both you and your DVR busy this summer!
