Billy Joel Pulls the Plug on Memoir

Billy Joel Pulls the Plug on Memoir

Billy Joel is keeping his memories to himself.

Three years after signing a $3million deal with HarperCollins to write his memoir, the singer has decided not to publish The Book of Joel.

In a statement on his website, the piano man said: "It took working on writing a book to make me realize that I'm not all that interested in talking about the past, and that the best expression of my life and its ups and downs has been and remains my music."

Joel plans to return the portion of the advance he received from the publishing company.

It's interesting that Joel decided not to publish the memoir now -- after it's already been written. But, with his colorful past of failed marriages, alleged substance abuse problems, and his daughter's recent emotional issues, it's possible it was all too personal to put out into the world. And we think it's pretty admirable that Billy Joel chose not sell out for cash.
